"Soot bamboo" is bamboo that was used to make thatched roofs of old houses, and it naturally took on a color while being smoked by the smoke from the hearth for 100 to 200 years. Nowadays, high-quality soot bamboo is becoming rare.

He has been selected for the Eastern Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition for two consecutive years, and his work "Sensujimoriki" is in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
