TORU HATSUTA
Born in Tokyo in 1980.
He began studying under bamboo artist Tanaka Kyokusho while attending Hosei University in 2002. He graduated from the university's Department of Sociology in 2003.
After submitting an entry to the Hanabako "Tea Basket" exhibition at the Tobi Art Fair in 2008, he began to create works that were inspired by tea culture through the creation of tools such as tea baskets and tea whisk containers.
Based on the history and techniques of bamboo craft as a traditional Japanese craft, he continues to create works that utilize bamboo, a sustainable material rooted in the Japanese climate and endowed with unparalleled natural beauty, while incorporating different materials such as lacquer and gold leaf.
