Miki Asai
Jewelry
MIKI ASAI
After graduating from Musashino Art University, she completed a foundation course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and studied jewelry at Glasgow School of Art, before returning to Japan in 2017.
She is currently active both in Japan and abroad, focusing on a series of jewelry that features unique textures using different materials such as eggshells, mother of pearls, and mineral pigments, which began as her graduation project.
She has been actively presenting new works, including being selected for Schmuck, Talente, and receiving the LOEWE FOUNDATION CRAFT PRIZE 2024 Special Mention.
Through repeated material experiments, she finds her own meaning in the characteristics of the materials and links them to her own themes and stories. She projects the contradictory act of leaving something that certainly exists without having a form onto the contradiction of destruction and creation of the material, and embodies the fickle existence as jewelry.
