MIN GALLERY is pleased to announce Toru Hatsuta's 6th solo exhibition.
Hatsuta creates works such as chashaku (tea scoops) for Japanese tea ceremonies, as well as chashaku and chazoku (tea rests) for Chinese tea, and flower vases, all of which are meant to be touched by human hands and to accompany daily rituals. While these pieces serve a purpose, it can be said that they have also established a presence as complete entities in themselves, without their value being solely dependent on their utility.
Carving, refining, carving again.
Hatsuta's works are born from this repetition. He intuitively perceives the character and subtle variations of the material, and without rushing to completion, he continues to work tirelessly until the inevitable form of the piece is realized.
We hope that this exhibition will offer you a moment to gently experience the personality, thoughts, and memories held within the hands that created each and every one of these works.
