Ring my bells 2024

MIN GALLERY is pleased to present jewelry artist Sayumi Yokouchi's first solo exhibition in Japan.

Sayumi moved to the United States in 1990 and spent a quarter century in California and New York. She has created works that capture the hidden presences in materials and strike a balance between repetition and chance.

The new pieces we are introducing this time were conceived as tools to express small prayers and wishes in everyday life. "Chorus" earrings are inspired by the colors of natural stones and the image of paper strips; "Put out the fire" is a ring with a candle snuffer motif that reflects the act of gently extinguishing a flame; and "Ring My Bells" is meant to awaken inner joy. Each piece is imbued with a gaze that gently entrusts peace and hope.

This exhibition will focus on these new works, as well as representative works from recent years such as "Inner Beauty," and archive works (not for sale).

Please come and see the current state of jewelry artist Sayumi Yokouchi, who does not see completion as the end point, but as a temporary stage of thought, and who has deepened her exploration by moving back and forth between her hands and words.
