"Soot bamboo" is bamboo that was used to make thatched roofs of old houses, and it naturally took on a color while being smoked by the smoke from the hearth for 100 to 200 years. Nowadays, high-quality soot bamboo is becoming rare.
It can be used for Japanese sweets, raw chocolate, and pound cake.

To ensure long-term use, after use, wash with water or lukewarm water, gently wipe off any excess water, and allow to air dry in a well-ventilated area.

He has been selected for the Eastern Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition for two consecutive years, and his work "Sensujimoriki" is in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
